Positive Addictions

November 9, 2013

When you think of the word addiction does sound of negativity or can be a positive in your life?

In William Glasser’s book, Positive Addictions he outlines that we can form habits around the most meaningful aspects of our life by changing the way you think about daily activities. The most common addictions that come to mind are alcoholism, drug abuse, and sex. But there are other addictions we have developed in our mind that are keeping us from reaching our potential.

Other negative additions include but not limited to:

  • ·  Negative self talk.
  • ·  Giving up when the going gets tough.
  • ·  Blaming others for not having what we want.
  • ·  Using lack of resources as an excuse for not having what we want.
  • ·  Blaming the technology or giving up when we don’t understand how it works.

The list is endless.

I encourage you to consider the things you want in life and form positive addictions around them but also be careful they don’t control you in an all or nothing situation. For example, you don’t want to sacrifice the relationship with a host by not trying their bread pudding because you consume those calories.

Positive addictions to develop.

  • ·  Putting the best food you can put in your body.
  • ·  Religiously track expenses and save money in your account.
  • ·  Taking exceptional care of your body and mind.
  • ·  Studying the word of God and practicing his discipline
  • ·  Being romantic in your relationship by doing little things that make them happy.
  • ·  Imposing self discipline with your children.

Think about some positive addictions you want to form and share with me the impact it has on your life.
